Projects

Within the framework of the LBI HO four project groups were initially formed: Myeloid neoplasms, Lymphatic neoplasms, Melanoma and Solid tumors. Over time, the research focus shifted and the LBI HO is currently working on two project groups: Myeloid neoplasms and Mast Cell neoplasms.

In each project group 5-6 projects were formulated and launched. The focus is the immunophenotypic characterization of the immature neoplastic cells, the identification of target structures (targets) on these cells and the evaluation of effects of targeted drugs. Moreover, in several diseases the immature neoplastic cells (stem cells) could be enriched by means of flow cytometry and partially, displayed in their pure form.

The objective of the institute is to test systematically the effect of new target-oriented cancer drugs, which are already being examined in clinical trials or shortly before application to the patient, on the growth of immature cancer cells (cancer stem cells) in these neoplasms. Several projects are also aimed at investigating the early stages of cancer development.
